Henry Travis is a local Half Hollow Hills High School graduate. He attended Cornell University for 8 years, graduating with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1974, at which time he returned to Huntington to work at Fort Hill Animal Hospital. Dr. Travis was a member of the advisory council as well as the Chairperson for Cornell University's Baker Institute for Animal Health for numerous years. He also has volunteered his time as a member of the advisory council at the Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown.
Fort Hill started as Ackerman Dog & Cat Hospital at the turn of the century by Dr. Ackerman. It was bought in the 1920s by Arthur Trayford, a local hometown veterinarian. It was then sold to Dr. Frederick O. Wright in the 1950s. Dr. Wright did extensive renovations and expansion in the early 1970s. This is what made Fort Hill into what it is today.
Henry Travis, another local homegrown veterinarian bought the hospital in 1980. After the turn of the next century, he was joined by his daughter, Lyndsey Travis.
